NHL Power Rankings Through 03-12-2013

admin March 13, 2013 NHL 1 Comment
Rank Team Name W-L Comments

1

Blackhawks

21-2-3 Stop the presses, Chicago has lost two in a row. It’s too bad that Chicago is going to bounce back relatively quickly to dominate the competition once more.

2

Ducks

19-3-3 In any other season, the Ducks would be the team to beat. Unfortunately, they won’t even be the best team in their own conference in 2013.

3

Bruins

17-4-3 Boston could very well be the number one seed in the east this year if they keep up their strong play.

4

Canadiens

17-5-4 There is no chance that Montreal wins their division. However, the Canadiens are giving Boston a good fight.

5

Penguins

19-8-0 Sidney Crosby is playing out of his mind and the Pens have a six game winning streak.

6

Hurricanes

15-9-1 Carolina has been surging over the past several weeks. It looks like they will be reigning supreme in the south.

7

Senators

13-8-5 They have gone 5-2-3 in their last 10. Although they are losing, at least they are losing in overtime when they can earn a point.

8

Maple Leafs

15-11-1 Despite getting James Reimer back, the Maple Leafs have only one point in their last three games.

9

Canucks

12-7-6 What has happened to the Canucks? They have way too much talent to not have sewn up their division by now.

10

Kings

14-9-2 L.A. is starting to look a lot like the team that won the Stanley Cup last year. It should be interesting to see how they finish.

11

Blues

14-10-2 The good news is that Chicago finally lost. The bad news is that St. Louis is still 15 points back.

12

Devils

12-9-5 The Devils are going to struggle when Brodeur retires. It’s been a rough couple of weeks in New Jersey.

13

Coyotes

13-10-3 A two game winning streak has them back in the playoff hunt and closing in on a high seed.

14

Red Wings

12-9-5 Detroit could finish safely in the playoffs or safely in the running for a lottery pick. That’s gotta be too close for most Red Wing fans.

15

Wild

13-10-2 It will be a great race between the Wild and the Canucks as the season enters its second half. Could the Wild snag a three seed?

16

Rangers

13-10-2 Despite a 3-1 loss to the Sabres on Tuesday, they control their own destiny at the moment.

17

Predators

11-9-6 Pekka Rinne has five shutouts this season. That is among the best in the league this season.

18

Sharks

11-8-6 Another four game losing streak has the Sharks in dire straights. It looks like it will be a struggle just to stay in the playoff race.

19

Jets

13-11-2 Winnipeg has some momentum after getting points in seven of their last 10 games. Their play on the road has improved greatly.

20

Stars

12-11-2 The Stars can’t seem to get out of their own way this year. With San Jose struggling, at least last place isn’t a guarantee in the division.

21

Flyers

12-14-1 They have a season defining home-and-home series against the Devils coming up this week. They could be in trouble if they don’t sweep.

22

Islanders

11-12-3 John Tavares is having another outstanding season. Will it be enough to get the Islanders over the hump this season?

23

Oilers

10-11-5 A 6-5 victory over Chicago followed by a 4-0 win over Calgary may be the spark that Edmonton needs going forward.

24

Blue Jackets

10-12-5 The Blue Jackets have points in seven of their last eight games. Welcome back to the NHL Columbus.

25

Lightning

11-14-1 Stamkos can score, but can the Lighting remember what it takes to win games on a consistent basis?

26

Avalanche

10-11-4 The Ryan O’Reilly signing still hasn’t translated into a lot of wins. Was it a mistake to sign him?

27

Sabres

10-14-3 A recent three game losing streak was quickly erased by losing four in a row on the road.

28

Flames

9-11-4 A promising start to their season is turning into a battle to avoid last place in the west.

29

Capitals

10-14-1 Alex Ovechkin took two penalties in one play on Sunday. That pretty much sums up the Capitals season up to this point.

30

Panthers

7-14-6 The Panthers are slowly fading out of playoff contention. It might be time to turn their attention to the first pick in the draft.
