The New York Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich will be sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks after suffering a broken thumb against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

Buchnevich was injured on a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner during the second period of a 4-0 loss at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. Buchnevich did not practice Friday and unfortunately for him the injury couldn’t have happened at a worst time as he is in the midst of his best hockey of the season.
Buchnevich was instrumental as the Rangers went 5-0-1 in their last six games, registering three goals and six points. He has nine points in 14 games.
The Rangers will host the Canucks on Monday night and forward Jimmy Vesey is likely to take Buchnevich’s spot.
