According to general manager Doug Wilson, Logan Couture broke his fibula during Thursday’s practice.
“Logan was injured in practice on Thursday in New Jersey and suffered a fractured right fibula at the ankle,” Wilson said. “He will be returning to San Jose to undergo surgery under the direction of Kaiser Permanente’s medical team. He is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.”
Coach Pete DeBoer said That Couture’s skate got caught in a rut in the ice surface and he got “leaned on” by a teammate. It happened during a five-on-five drill.
Couture thanked his fans for their support:
Quick thank you to everyone for kind words. I know the boys will hold it down. I'll be back.

Losing Couture for an extended period of time is not good for the Sharks, but as DeBoer said better now than this winter.
“It’s not the second half, we’re not heading into the [Stanley Cup] Playoffs,” he said. “If there is a silver lining that would be about it.
