Watch: Drouin’s Impressive OT Shift and Winning Goal

In case you were too busy too watch the Lightning last night here is one of the most remarkable hockey shifts this season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning won in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche thanks to Jonathan Drouin. Drouin got the winning goal after a long shift in which he twice stole the puck from the Avalanche. The second time, he took it off Matt Nieto in front of Colorado’s net and beat Pickard with a backhander for his 17th of the season.

“I was gassed,” Drouin said. “It’s one move, go one way and hopefully (the goalie) bites on that move, and I think he did a bit.”

Drouin’s Tampa Bay Lightning teammates marveled at his exploits after the game.

“He wasn’t going to be denied on that shift,” Lightning goalie Ben Bishop said. “He was on a mission there and happy to see him — because he’s been playing well — get the goal there.”

“A pretty heroic effort,” Tyler Johnson added.

“That’s what he does. He’s a gifted, gifted player … and he can do some pretty magical things. And you saw that,” head coach Jon Cooper added.

It was a massive goal for the Lightning especially considering they are clinging to slim playoff hopes. Tampa Bay could not leave an extra point on the table and Drouin made sure they didn’t.
